We started with one question from a customer: “Will it look like that on my wall?” Everything since, the true-to-scale preview, the hanging kit in every tube, the north-light photographs, is an answer to it.
Three weaves, one standard
Hand-woven kilims come from weavers we have worked with for years; each piece is one of a kind and photographed flat before it is listed. Machine-woven pictorial rugs are jacquard-woven on a cotton base with a 4 mm velvet pile. Printed tapestries are digitally printed on cotton in small runs. We hang all three the same way, and we say which is which on every page.
Dyed with madder, judged in daylight
Red is the hard color. Madder root gives the deep, slightly orange red of old Anatolian kilims; on screens it reads darker than it hangs. We photograph every piece on plaster in north light, and note on the page when a color photographs darker than it is.
